I’m Stella Matheson, a Big Picture student focused on directing and producing for film and TV.
Unlike many others, I didn’t grow up with that knowing feeling that I wanted to be a director. I found my way into filmmaking almost by accident, through a trip to Italy with my best friend to visit the set of The White Lotus. Seeing the imaginary world created for the screen in real life sparked a fascination I hadn’t expected. Years later, that memory, still with me, became a curiosity about experiencing the industry as a possible career.
What draws me to directing is the opportunity to take a story on paper and create from it an experience that audiences can relate to in their own lives: those uncomfortable, honest, universal moments that can be captured on screen.
Producing inspires a different part of me: I like the problem-solving, the logistics, and being a part of the process that turns an idea into something that actually gets made.
Right now, I’m learning from everyone I can, creating opportunities for myself and figuring out what kind of stories I want to keep telling.
